Megan Joy Releases Self-Titled Debut Album

July 18th, 2012 by Megan Washington

Megan Joy has just released her debut self-titled album on itunes and it is already climbing the charts. This highly anticipated release is the first since she was a contestant on American Idol in 2009. The 9-track album was recorded with Joy’s close friend and Producer Matthew Winegar and she also worked closely with husband Quinn Allman, the guitarist for The Used.

When the dust finally settled, American Idol finalist Megan Joy had spent two years after the show traveling, writing and recording her own blend of songs which would quickly blossom into her newly released debut album. After a crash course in the entertainment industry and the overwhelming support from her fanbase, Megan has proudly chosen to embrace the freedom in releasing her music independently.

Having been a guest on Ellen, The Today Show, Live! With Regis & Kelly, Larry King Live and more, Joy felt it was the right time to release music and nothing was going to stop her. She took to the internet and successfully launched a crowd-funded kickstarter campaign with the support of her loyal fans. “I didn’t need to sign a record contract to sing and share my music with the world, I figured out I could do it myself, and thats what I’m doing,” states Joy.

“I was so lucky to work with my husband and dear friend to finalize and decorate each song the way I imagined,” said Joy. The fan response and her favorite track have been similar, “Longing is my favorite song on the album because of the writing experience with Dave Litchens and Brit Burton, for the first time I felt very free in the vocal booth and the song truly became my own,” says Joy.

If wondering what is next for one of Utah’s most talented exports, “I’m currently preparing for the release of my 2nd album (yet to be titled) with tour dates to follow soon after,” says Joy.
