Interview | Mandy Ventrice

August 2002
By: Megan Washington

What has been your hardest career wise decision that you have ever made?
Mandy: Every decision you make in this business is hard, because you have to think everything through. I have faced a lot of hard decisions…one was deciding whether or not to join my old girl group (Poetry in Motion),
deciding what’s going to work for me in the long run.

* If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would you like to perform?
Mandy: Madison Square Garden.

* How was your trip to see the premier of “The Biggest Fan” in LA?
Mandy: It was rather interesting…I met the cast of the movie, stuff like that. It
was just a fun little day, I met a lot of new people.

* If you could work with any one, dead or alive, who would you like to collaborate with?

Mandy: Aaliyah, she is wonderful, enough said.

* What has been the best piece of advice given to you?
Mandy: “Do what’s best for Mandy”…a friend of mine said that to me once, and she is right…always do what’s best for yourself, make sure you’re happy, before you try to satisfy everyone else.

* This is a rather pointless question, but we ask everyone that we interview. Do you like pineapple?
Mandy: Haha, that is great, that is the best question I have ever been asked. Yes, I do like pineapple, I just had some of it today actually, what a coincidence.

* Do you prefer recording in the studio, or performing live?
Mandy: That is a very hard decision. I love both so much, but for several different reasons. I like being in the studio, because I love the atmosphere…just chillin’, writing, recording, which are my favorite things to do; I could live in the studio. But performing is unreal and completely unexplainable…when I perform I turn into someone else, it’s really fun.

* What is it like to be asked to write songs for artists like J-Lo?
Mandy: Well, I was asked to jump aboard a project by Shepp and Kenny, to write songs for Jennifer Lopez’s new album, in hopes to land at least one song. First of all, I was completely blown away that they would want me to be apart of something like that. I don’t know what’s going to happen as far as JLO singing one of my songs, but just the opportunity is amazing enough.

* Who is your celebrity crush?
Mandy: No comment. lol

* What would you like to say to all of your fans?
Mandy: Two very important words: THANK YOU.
