Interview | Fall From Grace

By: Megan Washington

The Romance Years was released on January 16th and it was your first release since 2008’s Sifting Through the Wreckage. In what ways do you feel the band changed between the releases?
Tryg:
January 24th, to be exact. The band had a lineup change in 2009, drastically changing the influence of The Romance Years, and I think you can hear that in the music. More confidant, mid-tempo, but still the same old Fall From Grace people fell in love with back in the day!

Is there a particular reason you chose to go with The Romance Years as the title for the album?
Tryg:
Absolutely. The Romance Years is a throwback into the years gone by, and the Fall From Grace everyone has come to love and enjoy. We’ve all been through large changes in life, and yet we’ve all still remained close. Every once in awhile it’s good to look back at years gone past and think “those were some incredible times”. That’s what this record represents.

What was your writing process like for the new album? Was there material you had written right after your 2008 release that made it on the album or did you have writing sessions specifically for The Romance Years?
Tryg:
Well as I mentioned earlier, our lineup had changed in 2009 after returning home from over 7 months on the road. We sat and wrote and recorded the new album, which we spent over a year and a half on. It was an amazing experience, yet it only consisted of Myself, Brian, and our friend Mike Caviezel. The 3 of us wrote, recorded, and performed the entire thing. It was truly a labor of love!

Is there any particular release that you feel the most proud of? Why?
Tryg:
Every one, honestly. Fall From Grace has always faced difficulty in releasing a new record, every single time. We’re perfectionists, you see, and if we release something it must be up to our standards. So, in essence, it’s a bear to release anything! But we stand behind it 100%.

Your schedule is empty on both your Facebook and Twitter. When can your fans look forward to seeing you on the road, in a city near them?
Tryg:
We just put 30,000 miles on our van in the last 2 1/2 months touring with Eve 6 and Saving Abel and Redlight King. I think it’s going to be awhile before we hit the road again! :-p

Your fans tell you how much the bands music means to them, but what does Fall From Grace mean to you?
Tryg:
Fall From Grace is a way of life and a brand that means to much to me as my name, Tryg Sebastian Littlefield. This band has been my identity for years and years. Every ounce of me has been poured into this band, and it has a deep seeded meaning to me. It means familty, life, and love.

What is currently the most random thing that someone can find in your bus/van?
Tryg:
Hahahaha…foot odor powder! :)

What’s next for the band?
